The Soap Box Derby was a big deal in Miami in the 1950s. Sponsored by The Miami Herald and Chevrolet dealers, it brought young speedsters to a track at the Orange Bowl. They competed in the hopes of winning a trip to Akron, Ohio and a shot at the international championship.
