Jonathan Vilma, played at Coral Gables High School
Back Jonathan Vilma, of Coral Gables High School, was one of eight Dade players on the Class 6A All-State football team in 2000. Vilma also earned first-team All-Dade honors his senior season at Gables High, where he registered 115 tackles and 10 sacks in leading the Cavaliers to the state playoffs. He would go on to the University of Miami and the pros.

Frank Gore, outstanding running back at Coral Gables High School
Before playing for University of Miami and in the pros, Frank Gore was an outstanding running back for Coral Gables High School. He was the 2001 winner of the Nick Kotys Award, given to the county's most outstanding high school football player. He was the first repeat winner in the history of the award, which is given by the the Kiwanis Club of Coral Gables. It was a record-setting season for Gore, who rushed for a Miami-Dade County record 2,658 yards in 10 games. He did it on 274 carries and he scored 34 touchdowns. He went on to set the "all-games" rushing record with 2,953 yards on 307 carries in 11 games.
